I'm a former elementary teacher living, gardening, blogging, and writing in Texas. During my teaching career I wrote short stories to aid in teaching, but I never tried to publish. I kept telling myself I would write someday but I didn't have the time. It was easy to procrastinate and dream.
Later, I became a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. The membership in this wonderful organization encouraged me to get started on the path to becoming a published writer. I began to write seriously, attend writing conferences, and joined critique groups. My experience has been amazing. I'm also a member of Sisters in Crime and Short Fiction Society.
My advice to young people who have a dream of being a writer is start right now, don't wait for someday and don't let life get in the way.
